Woke to No Privilege - Seal the Divide
An author originally
from Africa, like me
by privilege of her
more toned skin
announces as fact
what I think
and says she’s black to me
just because of my skin
with even more
accusing questions
delusional to my mind
stereotyping me
with impunity
What vile person defames me
to say that I make her
beg to survive?
Do I really see her audience?
Do you?
You who oppress me
with words sent
...to another
She speaks a truth
multiple ways
as an angel of light
So I answer my angel
I say
I am black
my sister
and long ago
we shared mothers
It is no privilege
to be met
with stony disdain
on any side
Bigotry wounds
the core
of everyone
