HIM AND HER

he was just your average girl
and she, the man he loved
she was his knight come shining bright
and he, her little dove

he washed her socks and served her meals
always with fresh bread
she drove a truck to make the bucks
that kept them warm and fed

the neighbors talked, the preacher balked
the inlaws turned their heads
but joy remained in their domain
and rocked their marriage bed

and when at last she was with child
he donned her boots and cap
went all aglow to make the dough
'til baby graced their laps

and one for three and three for one
they flew their own free flag
for love will find it's natural course
and tongues will always wag
