Finding Joy

We live where thieves break in
Where moths and rust corrupts
Yet we stack and store
Forgetting that this life
Is passing away
Oh how we enjoy the hunt,
The pursuit, the chase,
The desire, the longing,
The "if only".
And when our dreams become reality
We are never satisfied.
There's always the need
For something more,
The next beautiful thing,
We want something else,
Something different, something shiny,
Something unique, something rare.
If we could only learn to be truly happy,
To be content,
To be - yes, if we could only learn
To just be.
To be with nothing else,
No strings attached,
Happy just to be alive,
Every day a blessing.
No expectations, no resentments
Realizing that the best things in life are free.
Oh to find our joy in the little things this life has to offer.

Author's Note
Just thinking about life & how I have a lot of "stuff". We can be materialistic, collectors, packrats, hoarders. But life is fleeting and who knows whether those who end up with our possessions will be wise or a fool? And which were we for putting so much trust in worldly things in the first place?
