that slither of light
between the curtains

the rooster next door,
boastful
rude

my head wrapped
in the blanket
so that only my nose
sticks out --
a snorkel
so i might not
drown in the
wonderful
half sleep
but
sink
for just another minute

a short excursion
to
enjoy
the brain's
sleepy
shenanigans
before
the day
finally
pulls
me up
and out
of bed
