to Ride like Rohan (Day 17)
A few weeks in
and already people want out
they want to go out, out,
as they are already bored with the indoors.
Though for me there just is not enough
of this indoor time;
plenty of video games to play
for daily rewards,
Never mind the anthologies
and mountain of books I could read
if I only had a bit more discipline
and a lot less addiction.
Lately I have had a hankering
to paint and collect some miniatures
particularly those of Rohan;
most likely that host of the Horse Lords
speaks to something missing in my soul;
a freedom to run free like the wind
a match between mortal and mount
the faded glory brought back from the brink
Théoden, King,
sallying forth to aid their allies in their darkest hour
even if their allies had not helped them;
a supporting nobility that will answer
the ranging hermit now martyr
- though that may be simply me projecting my values onto them.
A good book is always a portal to another world
the unlimited lands are between the lines.

Well that's one thing we don't have in common; 'Our Mutual Friend' has escaped my grasp. Since watching 'Dickensian' I have kept an eye out for it.

Théoden does die in the end.
Maybe living comfortably isn't all that it is cut out to be.
Maybe there's more present than just nobility that justifies the conviction to break the norm.
Courage? Anti self-identification? Boredom?
Addictions are more neurons telling you what feels good instead of no neurons telling you otherwise.
Breathe slower, think deeper.
Rohan would have been lost if the morning didn't shine as brightly as it did.
Perhaps it's more about the timing than it is about the act itself.
I wonder if we can call speculation the 'boiling frog' of thought.
Or was that assumption?

For Spring 2020 I see the NHS as Rohan: a somewhat forgotten and underfunded faction of competent professionals that respond to a world-shaking threat and turn the tide even with the threat of death.
