1464 Roses
1464 roses
After all of this time
I am still unable to breath
under the strain as my voice breaks
When I try to speak my heart
So I wrote it
On my way to visit
Just as I have before
But today is your anniversary
So I must make it special
I got you 999 roses to show
Everlasting and eternal love
On my way to visit
Just as I have before
Roses in a wheel barrow
And I thought
This isn't enough
So I stopped
Got 365 more
To show I think of you
Every day of the year
On my way to visit
Just as I have before
Roses filling the bed of my truck
I stop at a red light
And realize
This, is not enough
So I stopped
And got 99 more
To show I would love you
Until my last breath
On my way to visit
Just as I have before
Roses filling my truck and my trailer
I turn to where you are
But something is missing,
So I stop to get you 1 more
To let you know only you
Are the one for me
I set roses in a path
Leading from the road to your door
Placing them all perfectly
Winding around the tree
That shades you from the heat
I am kneeling at your door
Apologizing for being late
I had to make today perfect
As for the last rose,
The deepest red of all
I place in your hand
So you may forever hold it
And keep it
I kneel on the packed earth
That is your front door
At the feet of your concrete angel
And clean the pristine marble
That is your front porch
I kiss your name
With my tears and my lips
After all these years
My words get stuck in my throat
After all of this time
I am still unable to breath
under the strain as my voice breaks
When I try to speak my heart
So I wrote it
On my way to visit
Just as I have before
But today is your anniversary
