Grace
Daughter of my twilight dreams
taken before dawn had breached
the decades have spun away
now you visit by sleep’s way
you’re not forgotten even though
time has passed in the waking fog
during which other thoughts
crowd memorial you truly earned
you’d be decade timed by three
in something more than memory
Grace embodied as consequence
the name signifying forgiveness
one day I’ll join you beyond the veil
in the version of forever rest
perhaps then I’ll learn what we missed
separated by the life but not by love.

I know you encouraged honest critique, but I find it hard to critique a poem online about such a heart-wrenching topic as the loss of a loved one. If you were planning to put it to print, perhaps I would offer more critique, but in the end, all I can say is that I am so sorry for your loss and your poem is a beautiful tribute (likely only one of many, I am guessing) to your daughter.
