SOMETHING CALM

I’m not coping very well today,
from behind my eyes it’s starting
to fray, the seams are stretched
soon to burst, it’s all too hard
and getting worse.

So at any minute I’ll crumble
into a crying mess.
It’s fight or flight
under this much stress,
there is no choice,
the brain is scattered,
around every corner
happiness is shattered
by the remembering of
the matters of fact.

The train provides
some silence and space,
a chance for me to
try and replace
the build up of tension
with something calm,
instead of constantly
raising alarm.

I wrote this poem many years ago, don't catch trains much these days but I can still remember that relaxing space I enjoyed, gazing out the window at all the things passing by, which inspired this.
