Last Night

As if to wake and find lipstick's faintest trace
Token of love's flowing cup still fragrant laced
Faith, so like sweet weave of dream and memory
The storm which rained your kisses down on me
And I, bold, unleashed upon the quarry, raged
Man afire, woman aflame; the coupling fiercely waged
And spent, we panted raw, entangled in sweat soaked sheets
Where fevered dream the spoils of earthly answer meet
The brute in me, the animal in you
The fires banked then flamed anew
By love constrained, unleashed, then tamed
Fading echoes crying out God's name
And it's sad that one must stay and one must go
After small talk and stray kisses fade as passions slow
But I long to taste again the sweet
When once more my love and I shall meet.
