Skin crawl

I once met a man that was interestingly odd
He wore a dark brown coat , long , down to his knees in any season the coat would be unbuttoned
He had a long beard end shaped like a cone
Dreary black eyes
He wore a half grin
His hair was wild and had never been introduced to a comb or shampoo
It had somewhat of stinch
but I paid it no mind
He was an intellect
Every morning
I’d get a bagel at brewsters
And he’s be there
We’d chat for a minute about politics the weather and the states weird insects
He said he once had a companion
But she left him
When his mindset started to turn over
He began to speak less and less
The speech was in his shoulders
Body language is a powerful tool
Well one day
He grabbed my hand before I turned to exit the door facing the busy street
He said he wanted to tell me
The day he had been beaten by indifference
I slowly sat down
I felt the invisible hairs on my neck stand up
