twin wishes
I wish I were a girl
Then people wouldn't expect me
to fight and be good at sports
Then no one would look at me weird
When I said something was cute or adorable
Then I would be allowed
To like flowers and babies and clouds
And I could be vulnerable
With my friends and family
Without being called a sissy
Then I wouldn't have to be strong
And hold back my tears or pain
I wish I were a girl
because
I would be allowed to be human
Without breaking out of a mold.
I wish I were a boy
Then people wouldn't expect me
To be pretty and delicate and gentle
Then I could yell and scream
And jump around and fight
And nobody would get upset
And call me a Tomboy
Then I would be free to grow up
Without worrying about babies
Or husbands, or having to teach
Because all other positions are filled by men
Then I could have short hair
And nobody would ask me what happened
And I would never have to wear makeup
Because nobody would care about a zit
I wish I were a boy
Because
I would be allowed to be real
Without anyone getting offended
Then people wouldn't expect me
to fight and be good at sports
Then no one would look at me weird
When I said something was cute or adorable
Then I would be allowed
To like flowers and babies and clouds
And I could be vulnerable
With my friends and family
Without being called a sissy
Then I wouldn't have to be strong
And hold back my tears or pain
I wish I were a girl
because
I would be allowed to be human
Without breaking out of a mold.
