trUth
And you shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.
(John 8:32 NKJV)
i
there is a purity of form
that renders truth a guileless storm
he knows no compromise or lapse
nor finds the time for fitful naps
ii
truth keeps no friends or enemies
or bows before false deities
his freedom rests but on his name
whose virtue is his only fame
iii
truth is life's nemesis to lies
falsehood before him bleeds and dies
his ire becomes the hangman's noose
when error profiles wild and loose
iv
a visit by the barber's chair
to pluck a strand out of his hair
will cause tonsorial unrest
for truth defies the shearer's zest
v
to hoard an increment of gain
beyond a fidelitous plain
breeds notions vain that naked truth
could falter as faith's conscience sleuth
vi
if in my truth i slightly err
hold to my tongue your gallest myrrh
lest in my lies you spot slight truth
let half-truths perish in their youth
