Her Hand
She had to be very careful
About who she marries
This decision was more
Than a decision based on love
Rather it was a decision
About her own destiny
She was the only benefitiary
Of her families assets
And the state had demanded
That she can only keep
What was rightfully hers
If she entitled her right
To someone else
If the man she chose to marry
Wouldn't squander
What he never worked for
She had to be very careful
About who she would marry
For his ideals would impose
Upon her life
His ideals would shape
Her state of peace
So accepting a proposal.
Wasn't just about accepting
A husband
But accepting an entire idealogy
So she had to be careful
She had to be safe
Or choose how much
She would suffer
How much she could
Keep to herself
While he lives in a world
That benefits him
She had to love
Her children
Whilst hiding her pain
What was the price of marriage
But the price of her own soul
And what state it would be in
In the future
Love just wasn't enough
About who she marries
This decision was more
Than a decision based on love
Rather it was a decision
About her own destiny
She was the only benefitiary
Of her families assets
And the state had demanded
That she can only keep
What was rightfully hers

If the man she chose to marry
