Black
Ignorance proves fatal
Encouraged by lies
Images of your lifeless face are forever burned into our minds,
Trying to overcome the memories of smiles and laughter
It was too late when we found you
The blood had turned black and your lips had turned blue
Emptiness remains
In this house and heart
Forever
Encouraged by lies
Images of your lifeless face are forever burned into our minds,
Trying to overcome the memories of smiles and laughter
It was too late when we found you
The blood had turned black and your lips had turned blue
Emptiness remains
In this house and heart
Forever

I live in east Tennessee and there have been so many heroin deaths in the area over the past several years it is unreal how fast it spreads like a plague. my condolences if you did actually lose someone to this. great poem, great voice and feelings laid down. well penned piece.

Unfortunately, this poem is written about true events. A dear friend of mine, my room mate at the time. This was when I was living in Indianapolis, which has the same plague that you've described.
Thank you for reading and commenting, it means a lot.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Drugs are a pandemic everywhere, as is the growing number of suicides, it seems. And we never know who the next victim will be.
A very striking write to the core of emotion.

Thank you for your comment. For some reason I didn't see it until now, but I'm not very active on this site.
This was one of my first attempts at poetry and was written in a very raw emotional state. Most of my writing comes this way.

Inability to deal with ignorance and lies ,
is the problem , not drugs ;
Drugs are never the problem , as that is
the outer method of dealing with inner
revelatory processes ( a positive ) or to
obscure life changes , as they may seem
too harsh to deal with ( a negative )
Drugs are drugs...altering consciousness ( a good thing , like air and water )
The reasons why we feel we need them , and ingest them...
That is another thing , completely...some people can not deal with "reality"
With all that said...I am sorry for your , his family , and friends , loss...
I wish him well on his continued journey...;)

I can definitely relate.
This is great writing.
I appreciate you sharing the moment even if it's difficult.
Very well captured and well written. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work!
