Inner Child

Each summer by train or road she came east, she came home
Sister Moon pulls at the tides just as she over me presides
toward 'Darwin's little pond', I return to life's beginning, life's bond
tiny toes toddle to shore's edge where calm for me is dredged

Wonder and delight I breathe the breath of life
unable to explain feelings the sea gave like she was my best friend
escaped into the ocean where I float comforted by her motion
she was mother to this child waves rocking her a while

Hold my breath and plug my nose underwater I would go
eyes open to the view of crabs and sea weed too
I would stay there all day long singing clam and star fish songs
estuary flows washing pain from my young soul

Today this child exists inside with two clenched fists
I tell her all is well we just need to sit a spell
upon the dunes and spy deep into the sea, please don't cry
the ocean calls for you, hold fast, to you be true
