This Sky

I no longer know this sky.
I know only the tapestry
Of a world now losing me.
And I cannot tell you why
I am crying inside my heart
With tears that will not fall
As they swell, consuming all
While my soul drifts an age apart.

I dream a world built for two.
If only I could be there with you.
The horizon I only would share
If your arms held me there
As the stars are born in blue
Of a sky, to us, so new.

You say that nothing is forever…
I pray my heart will not falter.
I cry to think of some near dawn
When you tell me you have gone.
I long to make my love into a day,
And tell you that I will stay
If you would have me for that time
As the bells sing their silver chime.

There is wind in my eyes…
And the ashes I shall be
When I feel where no-one lies
Those I loved who left me.
I pray you will not go,
But will stay to watch this garden grow.
Please do not leave me on the farther shore
With the whisper of what could be to be no more.
