The wedding feast

I looked into her eyes,
I stroked her head,
I felt the rough pampas grass in my hands as it munched contentedly,
The Kenyan sun beat down,

Sitting across the other side of the compound,
Sitting sipping Tea made from ginger and clove,
Sitting with my new mother in law,
Sitting remembering the cute goat,
Sitting stroking the cat,
Sitting watching the Hens root around in the soil,
Sitting watching my new wife with her sister,
Sitting,

The scream galvanised me,
The scream echoed across the yard,
The scream rushed through my being,
The scream sounded that of a woman,

He came bathed in blood from the field,
He came leading a precession of meat bearers,
He carried the skull of the goat I had fed,

I felt sick,
I felt terrified,
I felt native instinct at odds with thought,
I felt as the hunter,
I felt the excitement flow form the group through me,

Meat , meat, fresh meat,
The provider has arrived!
The celebrations can start!
The collective celebrated as the cute goat was thrown on the charcoal burner, the women gathered!
I found a bush and wept, the excitement of the group washed with my tears into the soil
