This Moment

I stand on another threshold ...
waiting like a passenger searching
for the big ship that will bear me
to something better, some time
that will fill me with excitement.

This event will be like the dozens
moments that have passed before,
shine diminishing, tarnishing...
a balloon that bursts and wraps
its restraining arms around me.

Every moment, no matter
how mundane and unexceptional
can lead to the rest of your life.
Dreams are lovely, frothy things,
but are they worth spending wildly?

This breath, this inhalation of living
detritus defines me.
