To younger love
I wouldn't mind if you were sleeping,
fingers outstretched across an ocean.
I am quiet now.
I have quit.
You quit some years ago
but I forget.
It seems like it all was last week now,
it seems like your eyes'd cut as deep now,
I wouldn't mind if we'd speak now
but you're there, I'm here, it's gone now.
That love
that lived
in us then
it grew,
wrapped around others, loved them.
That love
lived
in us
then grew
and there's, there's no turning back now.
You said the words,
I choked on them,
spiraled inside until I was broken,
for you it seemed easy - I wasn't yours,
for you it seemed easy to change the score.
I know I am stronger, brighter now,
I know I'm more able, kind now,
I know that you wounded my soul now,
I still belt those songs of heart ache now
but
That love
that lived
in us then
it grew,
wrapped around others, loved them.
That love
lived
in us
then grew
and there's, there's no turning back now.
It's the truth, there's no more hurting,
I guess what's been said - it wasn't working,
called it before we drowned us
in what wasn't ours,
called it before we found that
we weren't ourselves.
That love
that lived
in us then
it grew,
wrapped around others, loved them.
That love
lived
in us
then grew
and there's, there's no turning back now.
