This made me miss summer, I think butterflies embody summer, and that adds to their magic, the fact that they are dormant during winter and magically appear in summer with the flowers gives them a mystical quality. They seem to be a symbol of the ultimate free spirit.

What really amazes me is the Monarch Butterfly's annual migration from the Sierra Madre Mts of Mexico all the way to Canada, and then the return by 5 generations removed offspring to the same place...how many humans can go to where their great great grandparents lived without anyone showing them the way...there's magic here

It is mystical how they find their way, could it be a sort of compass in their body, I see them around here in late August and they just fly all around for a couple weeks then disappear.
