Dark river

She waded through the waters
Of his dark and troubled river
In the cradle of her arms
She was salvation and forgiver as
She held his head close to her breast
to stop him slipping under
When the current tried to take him
When his mind was plagued with thunder
in the dark...
The riverbanks were crumbling
And the storm so unforgiving
The welcome from the bed
Was for the lost and not the living
She waded through the water
And she calmed the angry river
Still she keeps him close beside her
And her heart is now his pillow...
In the dark.
