My Brother, My Friend

My brother, my friend
I write this to tell you
You’ve got me til the end
If things ever derail you
When life catches you off guard
When shit fails you
When it all gets too hard
Sometimes it feels empty and
Sometimes it feels pointless
I know better than most
The condition called hopeless
But you told me the truth then
When I couldn’t see past the drink
Because it brought the anesthesia
I thought I needed
Because life sucked, and life hurt
And you loved me then
When I couldn’t love myself
And I will tell you the truth now
Because I love you now,
as I always have
And always, always will.

The truth is, we never hide things as well as we think
And someone who loves you will pull you from the brink
I tread this road before you
I walked the twists and turns
No story’s quite the same, but
Play with fire, you might get burned

I’m not the best with being direct
I sometimes fall into our Family culture of
Talking about a person
Talking about a problem
with every single person
but the person with the problem
But I don’t want to do that
I want to simply let you know,
My Brother, My Friend
I have not a single speck of an ounce of judgment towards you.
We are the same blood, the same genes
Half of him, half of her
Is running through both of us
The DNA we’re blessed with
Doesn’t come without a price
Maybe God let me navigate it first
So I could be your ally.

All this to say,
I see your struggle.
I feel it.
I love you. Always have, always will.
