Evening's Come
The sun's last long rays have descended and are lost in the lengthening shadows
And evening's come,
That dusky twilight before the night when all things ease,
Then quiet,
Gathered in before the dark.
There is a stillness now
Within which all things seem balanced to a common end.
Evening,
And half dreamt thoughts gentle nudge the corners of my mind
And I grasp at them even as they dance away again.
Recollections which whisper to the spirit and tease the soul.
Like memories of dreams to come
Or echoed whispers of the rain
Which words speak
Low
Whispering my name
In the familiar remembered ways
Candlelit enchantments as the evening grows
And I gaze to far away
Beyond this familiar scene
For what is time that it could bind me here?
Speak my name in the gentle sigh of the winds
Which slip the boughs to caress evenings dreams
Dancing in moonlight's silver beam
Beneath the trees
Remember me
As I you
As I you
And draw me forth on memory's gossamer wings
And say the words distance and time deny
The touch of you
Tell me, I love you
The scent of your hair
Kiss me my love
The hidden secrets within your eyes
Speak with softest press of lips to mine
And wake my heart to love again
Do you across the distant miles
Pause beneath the silvery moon
And dream on cloudless nights my spirit's caress
Bound to you on evening breeze
With gifts of honeysuckle scents
Beneath magnolias
And dance in dreams as lovers do
Softly slow
More held than moved
And melt within each others arms
To join
Embraced as one
Within the rhythm of the night
Of such flights of thoughts are moments as these
Lost within the evenings breeze
And evening's come,
That dusky twilight before the night when all things ease,

Gathered in before the dark.
