Five Year Old  Eyes

Take me back
to my five year old eyes
that peered through bay windows
at sunshine bricks of all yellow's
beneath infant school skies .
Remembering old friends
and bombed valley's
crescent bends
and marble ralley's .
Train stations
bin lorry vibrations
sash windows , from where I'd watch in patience .
Haunted vestibules
ghostly stairs
imaginary ghouls
sparking off nightmares .
Saturday mornings
mischieviously dawning
with all kinds of crazy people
in the street calling
kids on tricycles , short falling
revving up motorbikes
and children bawling
cats and dogs going mad
and mauling
while the neighbour
tinkers with his car
that keeps stalling .
Now its back
to the present
to get on with things
black
and unpleasant
to get on with day to day
maybe I'll stray away
tomorrow and say
there'll always be
my five year old eyes
that stared into curious skies
behind that window bay .
