The Hopeless Cafe

It's like looking into a fish tank.
As I walk by outside in the dark
There inside in the box of light.
There are three of them this morning.
But one of them is the owner.
That's how it is day after day
As I walk by on my way to work.

Hell those two customers
Can’t drink enough coffee
To even pay for the lights.

It's hard to watch this cafe fail
Watch someone’s dream die
Little by little, day after day.
Like watching someone
Bleed to death.

Today’s special?
Tuna melt and soup.
It almost makes me cry.
I pull up my collar
And cross the street.
