The Friendzone Is My Lover

He said we needed to talk and,
As everyone knows,
It wasn't about beautiful flowers or weekend plans,
But instead he said, "about you and me."
We needed to talk,
But did we really need to? Because,
I felt like I could feel your heartbeat everywhere you walked,
And I never wanted it to end like this but,
Here we are talking.
"I think we're better off as friends."
And here I am, remembering the way your smile,
Lit up my life.
And the way when we were still immature I'd,
Watch you walk from your desk to the pencil sharpener.
How polite you stood at least 2 feet behind,
If someone beat you to it.
The scene could make me cry because our,
Inaudible and infrequent "Hello"s and "Goodbye"s,
Were words I've held onto for years.
We were the biggest secret either one of us kept,
But those memories are just pieces of me,
Pieces of you and chunks of us,
The plans we made of hands brushing and lips touching,
Are now the responsibility of my new lover,
The place you put me in when you broke my heart,
The friendzone.
