No Stranger Strangers
We squeeze ourselves
into each others dreams
That are often two
(or even three)
sizes too small
Or too tall
Or too “we”
(where “we” always means
“always you”
“never me”)
Walking the bottoms of our souls/soles off
Thread-bare cuffs
Dragging behind in defeat
in a pile of dusty, molten heat
Feet to the fire of reality
Finally forced to see
what we often refuse to see
Because, of course, you see:
We see the things we need to see
to believe the things we need to believe
Thieving the sanity from reality
to fill in the holes of eternity
We talk to each other in each others minds
More than we ever will in real life.
While the Expectations
of our relations
Dictate the pleasures
Of our togethers elations
I really don’t really know you and you
really don’t really know me
And I doubt that we’ll ever really know
each other’s real version of “we”
into each others dreams
That are often two
(or even three)
sizes too small
Or too tall
Or too “we”
(where “we” always means
“always you”
“never me”)
Walking the bottoms of our souls/soles off
