Sometimes your heart desires that what you cannot have
Should not have
Ought not have
But something beyond your control overpowers you
You give way to chase with all your heart and might
Your restless fight
A breathless plight
The longing becomes too much it slowly devours you
It roots itself so deep in your soul you barely know it
Hardly show it
Scarcely sew it
But it grows on you with great strength and intensity
It goes against your values to the point of all treason
Without any reason
Or even cohesion
It becomes part of you with unrestrained propensity
You let yourself swim in the titillating mystery and thrill
Without any will
Just to fulfill
A fantasy with all your imagination that's just within reach
With the notion that it will somehow soothe your yearning
Stop the churning
Ease the burning
That even in prayers to divinity you beg and beseech
The battle of the heart and mind is always fought quietly
Some days tirelessly
Sometimes righteously
Knowing right from wrong when you easily covet
And while it may seem that you’ve fallen from grace
In that little phase
By that subtle gaze
Though you struggle with it you also secretly love it
Should not have
Ought not have
But something beyond your control overpowers you
You give way to chase with all your heart and might
Your restless fight
A breathless plight
