Rain Or Shine
Relentlessly pelting,
drowning us out
over the course
of the afternoon
feet still wet
waiting my turn
to sing to those passing
brave enough to attend
hands chilled
from the damp
- that extra obstacle
to hitting the right notes
Winding the cords
striking the set;
packed up
until next time
* * *
Lonely drive,
the older troubadour
reflecting on the old ways
the excitement of an invitation,
offered a drink
choices available
mild flirtations
extended evenings
* * *
He never eats before a performance,
but his stomach is grumbling now
and he decides on take-out
"Dinner for one, please".
It pains him to say it,
pounding home that empty feeling
that of all that was given,
there is nothing to be returned.

The exhilaration of the performance high can often lead to a low in my experience. Sometimes the challenge of playing for strangers.

I really, enjoyed this handsome, those memories...it makes us who we are, and defines the path we chose to take, or accept, very nostalgic poem worth remembering

There is metamorphosis at some point along the way. Those lows not as evident when younger, but as we evolve, perhaps there is a shift in the purpose. Thanks for the lovely comment and enjoy your evening.

As we age there comes the greatest reward and that is wisdom, something we all inspire to obtain, yet very few will ever seek such intellectual maturity, and you have a great evening as well my love

Many don't wish to seek as it may sometimes be the easier path. Some aren't always equipped to wade into that scary world of emotions.

My love, there is never an easy path through life, however, many detours, hopefully the will of the mind must adhere to the benefits of the road less traveled, and is it worth it in the end

I like how you think. And there were a few positives in the examination of this. I have become disengaged from much of the material I play, which has prompted an upheaval of the set providing me the drive to work on some stuff I can get excited about again. I composed this yesterday, and was gifted with a more upbeat conclusion to the day...which was a lovely surprise.

Then I applaud your tenacity and to give much credence to the muse of your mentality, therefore, do continue to bestow us poetess with such beautiful ink spills

I'm sorry that something you love doing comes with burnout afterwards, but I've experienced fleeting crashes & they're hell. It makes it more heartbreaking throwing your loneliness in there with takeout for one reference and that of the drink offer. Sigh...

Those emotions are a perfect catalyst to examine what I need to change to find value in simply performing. The gang had gone for the weekend and after the adrenaline faded it just seemed really empty in the house. Hadn't performed in 7 months...probably good to get back on the horse.
