Rediscovered Love
you came into my life unexpectedly to say the least
quietly you admired from afar
camouflaged by your youth
hiding in the crowd of many
my pursuit of a life on the edge all that I knew I was so superficial
I wanted no more than just that
avoiding all who cut beneath my barriers
I feasted on adrenaline and conquest
with me being a woman our roles were reversed I sought only life in the moment
while you held on for both of us
looking back in slow motion
I can clearly see
the lights changing from red, red stop
yellow, yellow, yellow caution
to green let's go
at the time my doors were locked
no chance in Hell
anyone was getting in
but I still had eyes
and damn boy, you were hot
a really nice guy
you did not appear on my radar screen
dangerous is what I sought
playing with fire day and night
living such a torrid life was wearing me down
then there was you
persistently driving
until you whipped my ass
it was with you the victory stood
it is said in our sport
that rubbing is racing abrasive is our way
relationships consisting of fuel, smack talk and hostilities
you earned my respect
instantly upping your badboy cred
as you looked me in the eyes
"Go out with me!" was all you said
going out and giving you a chance
without complaint as agreed
nice guys finish last was true
you being the nice guy
I dated...last
so in retrospect when I see you in my memories
my heart swells at your fierce determination
so much more than I could have asked for
all the years later
you remain more than I deserve
my partner in crime
as we lived on the edge you always thrust me to the forefront
worked so hard to allow us a chance to dream
ofcoarse our vehicles have changed along the way
we bid a tearful goodbye to our machines
way too expensive to maintain
the insurance obscene
the road before us has twisted and turned
been filled with potholes, detours and dirt trails
carried us to glorious heights and dropped beneath us more than once
we learned when life left us stranded
to lie down in its dust
and watch the stars as they shoot across our sky
beside me feigning confidence
as our first star fell from above
we stumbled along bewildered and amazed this tiny being the embodiment of our love
my heart became restless and looked once again to the sky
inky blackness was all I could percieve
so many tiny twinkles
landed in our lives
some burned for awhile before leaving us
others just burning across the blackness their bright light illuminating our darkness with hope
when once again our stars aligned
such beauty and light fell
radiating happiness and joy
piercing our universe with blissfull brilliance
so no matter how dark our sky becomes
our stars will always shine through
we'll stand together
or fall as one
our universe rejoined anew
quietly you admired from afar
camouflaged by your youth
hiding in the crowd of many
my pursuit of a life on the edge all that I knew I was so superficial
I wanted no more than just that
