Untitled (Escapril Day 12)
we got rid of the couch
the one he died on
the most macabre of trinkets
to have inherited
no, wrong word
i wanted it
it was the couch i built a fort on
when i was twelve
the couch that acted as my bed
when my mother was away
and my grandparents were all i had
the couch i laid on when i was told
by my dad whom is also now dead
that my grandmother had passed away
the sunny morning in july
where the numbness overtook me
until i finally broke down and cried
that same couch was the one they found him on, the morning in may
where i sat that very same day
after his body had been taken away
and i looked for his soul every single night
only to be disappointed
when the couch held no memories
and no ghost
when it got older and eventually broke
when it was time to get a new one
time to let go
so we got rid of the couch
the one where he died
but we kept the table
because it held memories
of him and her
when they were both
