Sorry I missed yOur party.

Jeez, that must be 40-50 years ago.

Most parties are worth missing, but that
         one coulda been one of those rare
         circular-circumstance affairs.

But i don't really know. I just recall that
          I was not there where I could've
       put on a shimmering show of puny recompense,
            dangling parts & little else to
        go on.

Like I said, I wasn't there. Neither in flesh
         nor, (as they say), in spirit.

And pleas, don't ask where I was, and don't tell
        me whether or not my presence
           would've been at all desired.

I'm sorry I missed your party.
