Stray

Mangled and muddied, a limp could be seen
spat on and bullied, so many mean

scrounging for morsels, head hung to the ground
cast out of comfort, no love to be found

meanders the path, near a slow moving stream
asking for sunshine in yesterday's dream

caught in reflection, for who is this cat
obviously ugly, mangy, and fat

eyes that are lost, no purpose, no soul
sadly surrendered, hardened he strolls

cries echo the night, empty meadows he roams
searching for daisies and a place to call home
