Con Man Blues

He speaks with ease and confidence
Eloquent with all the lies
They marvel at his composure
While his face retains its guise

There is a smile, suave and sure
Spreading slowly on his face
But it does not attain those eyes
Where treachery belies the grace

I hear him whistle in the dark
When this trickster comes to knock
I would much prefer to trust
But, when that fails, just turn the lock.
