EPITAPH II
There's nothing of value here
Ashes in a cup, apricot and almond
What detours passed me by
On this tangent through what I'll become?
There's a stream of light that's fading
As I fall deeper down the in-between
I can't deny as all hands extend
But they can't touch beyond their means
And you gaze at me through smoke
I wonder if you'll know just where I am
Before we get there
We spoke of happiness and pain
Just like we were young and naive
And the fear and doubt that passion brings
When sunny words could feel like rain
I'll be a shade from the light
Underneath all that is grey
Because I'd rather days be cold than empty
And I'd sooner be lost than not me
And you gaze at me through smoke
I wonder if you'll know just where I am
Before we get there
No turning back now
It's a one-way
