Lattice (song)

I made a lattice on your back and now you take it out to smoke
Mm, you can stash it in your jacket but the people across the street, they know
Because the blinds that hide the window
always do it a little too slow.

I made a lattice on your back; by afternoon it will be grown
Pretty pink pickets gonna give a rose-glow
Try and hide that perfume...
I bet you won't.

I made a lattice on your back to hang my rude, clinging vines
Pardon the garden I couldn’t help but leave behind..
It's just, your earth begged for flowers
And I had no use for mine.

I made a lattice, made a lattice, made a lattice on your back
Sowed my notes in the dark, much sharper than flat
Those buds, hmmmm...
All green
I’d say
They were just what you needed.

I made a lattice on your back, my love, it’s leaking petals
A spring cascade the creepers made; your cheeks turn hot metal
Anybody meetin your eyes...
Gonna watch those vines wrestle.

Through your stoic poker-jaw and through the California breeze
Even through your cigarette and highway gasoline
The scent of gardenias
Gonna rise like Louisiana steam..!

I made a lattice, made a lattice, made a lattice on your back
Sowed my notes in the dark, much sharper than flat
Those blooms, hmmmmm..!
All red -
Oh you......
Make a great flowerbed.
