on having green(ing) eyes

these can be emeralds,
kept in a polished exhibit;
spotlight can strike them and they
are apt to strike back,
spilling the rapture
of an audience -
held high above the dress,
the perfectly prepared,
made-for-this-occasion
type of visual event.
oh,
they can be the gems of the showcase
but most days,

they are much more like

glitters of pickles you requested
peeking from under the bun,
satisfaction sent, delivered -
faster than expected, a

yes!

dollar bill corner
winking from your freshly dried jeans pocket,

yes,

young lawn clippings on their curb pillows
drowsy jade
you notice just before the
younger smell

nuggets! thought lost - sitting in your grinder
an innocent upward smile that giggles ooo,
tonight gonna be
at the very least,
a good time

the fourth clover leaf,
and the third,

the pet-store conure's cheeks
that plumage perked up to some punchline
unheard,

alarm clock digits
ticking closer
to the number
you want -
need -

the kind that, open-eyed, can wink -

that
is more
my kind of green.
