FOREVER YOUNG

Lying at rest, on torn apart landscape,
A soldier's life comes to an end.
No more to be pained, or battle-bled weary,
No more heartfelt letters to send.

For all of his efforts, his courage, his fears,
Despite all that has gone before,
His role has been played in this theater of pain,
His time to fight is now no more.

A deafening silence, a darkness unknown,
Is all that does greet his demise,
Whilst hellfire and fury erupt all around,
As mortar shells rain from the skies.

There will be no service, no prayers said to God,
No graveside for loved ones to grieve.
Just tales from a lifetime, in stories untold,
a life he must finally leave.

Peace everlasting does welcome his soul, as he answers the lone pipers call.
The Fallen, the wounded, the bravest of men, with thanks, we remember them all.
