Doors
Some doors that are shut
Are meant to be locked.
To keep us out of places
We shouldn’t be
The memory of her is but a whisper
I should stop staring at the doorknob
I need to throw away the key
To forget the combination
But in the dark of midnight
I still find myself
Peering through the keyhole
Because I don’t want her to disappear
A door is closed between us
And I pause to remember
That love shown in every scene
I only barrowed her heart for a while
Heartache is but a stepping stone
Still I cannot deny with an oath
The thing I cannot have I still desire
Sweet as honeysuckle
Memories that bring a smile
How I long to dance with the devil
A door separates our lives
It is bolted shut
But just knowing that
She is still there on the other side
Makes me call to her
Saying things we shouldn’t say
Not taking commitment seriously
Struggling to overcome lust
Trying to walk away
Scratches on the door
But don’t judge me too harshly
I am carnal and my body is sold
Unto sin serving the law of flesh
Because of the beauty of her allure
I struggle wrestling with myself
I cannot renounce my love for her
She is an open door
A red devil, yet an angel
But certainly no saint
She’s a flower child
And gypsy queen
Wild and unbroken
A trap and a treasure
A fantasy and a dream
A slamming door
I should run from her
Set her free
Let the memory go
A wild falcon can’t be constrained,
When released it is destined to soar
Then I can find rest for my soul
I should let her be wild
Go her own way
Take a look back at me
Once last time
But instead she’ll see
Only a closed door
Are meant to be locked.
To keep us out of places
We shouldn’t be
The memory of her is but a whisper
I should stop staring at the doorknob
I need to throw away the key
