yule yalda mithras sol
winters ancient tale is told
season changing sun returns
daylight grows midst lessons learned
firelight starlight in the eyes
of children eager for surprise
magic moments gifts and more
decorations on the door
christmas on the beaches where
summer shines on skin now bare
season changing time is shared
in moments seeming very rare

what remains this time of year

Author's Note
Yule is Norse name for Winter Solstice festival..Yalda is Zoroastrian Winter Solstice Festival...Mithras was Persian God of Light whose day was December 25 (later chosen by Christian Church to help convert Roman soldiers who were mostly Mithraists)...The penultimate day ofRoman Saturnalia was the Dec 25, also, festival of Sol Invictus...Christmas has been around for a very long time under many names,,,Christianity is just an add-on to the Winter Solstice festival celebrated since deepest antiquity
