You were
A pop culture
Icon
Look alike
Working at the
Marshall Field’s
Downtown
(5 minutes from my house)
With the
Fluorescent
Bracelets
And the
Big hair bow
And I was
Just a child
(6th grade probably)
We connected
Somehow,
Maybe because
We weren’t
Really
Tweaking
Over much of
Anything
In a space
Running over
With kids
Taking
Pictures
With their
Favorites;
We struck up
Conversation,
Exchanged
Phone numbers-
Curiosity
Phoned first
About
A week later
5 days
(More accurate)
Innocence
Didn’t want to
Appear
Anxious
That’s the type
Of bitch
We’ve always been
And we met up
Right after
On the
Street corner
Near the
Overpass,
With the
Mini mart
Up ahead
Looking like
Your alter ego
Minus the
Make up
Hanging out
For hours
Which went on
For months
Expecting to
Eventually
See you
Without the
Décor
But
That never
Happened
All shimmery
Communicating
Which
Part of you
I might have
Belonged to
Consequently
Almost
As dreamy eyed
As me.
