I Want
I want to write a thousand letters
lock them away, let them rot
so I may find them years away
and prove them all wrong
I want to see the sun set
and watch the sky turn a brilliant red
reminding me that I’ve lost a day
that I could be living in
I want to hold my shadow’s hand
pull it next to me
talk until it disappears
and I’m left with nothing
I want to crawl into my reflection
so it stops deceiving
once they see behind the glass
they’ll all be running
I want to be more than a book
that’s read for a little while
only to be put back on a shelf
and never dusted off
I want to shut this out, erase this part
start all over again
because i believe that part of me
doesn’t want anything
lock them away, let them rot
so I may find them years away
and prove them all wrong
I want to see the sun set
and watch the sky turn a brilliant red
reminding me that I’ve lost a day
that I could be living in
I want to hold my shadow’s hand
pull it next to me
talk until it disappears
and I’m left with nothing
I want to crawl into my reflection
so it stops deceiving
once they see behind the glass
they’ll all be running
I want to be more than a book
that’s read for a little while
only to be put back on a shelf
and never dusted off
I want to shut this out, erase this part
start all over again
because i believe that part of me
doesn’t want anything
