Phoenix and the Gryphon

Two different worlds, a world in the same,
Two different birds, a bird to tame.
Glory shines in the phoenix's eyes,
Shame smolders in the gryphon’s lies.
Flame turns the world to ash, unsought,
Ash by which the phoenix was wrought.
The gryphon lies in the corner tame,
Left unprovoked he’s to blame.
Wary birds watch enemies near,
Everything to hate, all to fear.
The phoenix has yet to fly,
Grounded inside, about to die.
The gryphon hasn't will to move,
With his death, his life will prove.

Circumstance leads to flight,
A blind plunge into the night.
In the dark two birds meet,
Two lives now complete.
The phoenix learns from the gryphon demure,
To unshade the flame, light so pure.
The gryphon learns in the phoenix's ways,
To boast the pride of forgotten days.
Passion fires in desolate hearts,
Old lives to end, one to start.
Desire gives lift to leaden wings,
New hope given to broken beings.
The phoenix is reborn from a slave,
The gryphon awakes from the grave.
