Who cares?

A knock at the door
A cheery greeting
Dainty footsteps on the floor
On goes the heating

'Can I make you a brew?'
'Would you like some lunch?'
The sounds of activity anew
Culinary creativity is my hunch

It's nice to have companionship
If only lasting for a while
A carer's kindness and friendship
Good nature'd banter and a smile

All too soon signing out
A hug, a wave and then she's gone
Internally I scream and shout
The house returns to quiet and I am alone
