Purgatory
The garden gate to heaven
Is through a cornfield
Stalking through desecrated husks
Of past indiscretions and sins
Trampling empty shells
Of insect memories
A few good golden ears left
Those pure joys in life so rare
Seeking to hold tight to
The right choices made
The garden gate to heaven
Is through a cornfield
The question remains
How to escape the maize
Is through a cornfield
Stalking through desecrated husks
Of past indiscretions and sins
Trampling empty shells
Of insect memories
A few good golden ears left
Those pure joys in life so rare
Seeking to hold tight to
The right choices made
The garden gate to heaven
Is through a cornfield
The question remains
How to escape the maize

Your picture you paint is very vivid.
This line intrigued me the most!
"The questions remains
How to escape the maze"
Jesus Paid The Price
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Peter 1:18-19
Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

I liked your imagery in the second and third stanzas ... I couldn't see a rhyme scheme or rhythm - I don't know why you didn't choose to use either of them and if you did why I missed it.

Didn’t use rhyme or rhythm scheme because the purgatorial experience, like the poem, is imperfect. You made an important observation! Thanks for sharing your thoughts :-)

A purgatory as a maze... good concept.
the soul pains at each memory of sin
every scratch of corn on naked skin

Your first two stanzas brought to mind the parable of the tares ...
