IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

I was so young, so naive
full of life, wanted to achieve
so many goals, wishes and dreams
back then I had pride and self esteeme

I thought you were the one you see
and I gave you my heart entirely
I put my trust and faith in you
believed that my fantasy had come true

It wasn't before too long
we packed our bags and we were gone
The other side of the country we went
many years happy and content

A young family we started to raise
so much love, admiration and praise
Suddenly in the blink of an eye
ten years you were willing to compromise

All of a sudden I didn't know you at all
you weren't the man for who I did fall
Down the path of destruction you went
two years of complete fear and torment

Your lies, deceipt, your violent rage
your suicidal madness the pshycotic stage
Felt trapped, like I couldn't leave
and there was going to be no reprieve

When I found you hanging from that beam
eyes wide open, nothing like it I had ever seen
Having the police on a high speed chase
being commited as you were off your face

Yelling all sorts of demands
you took my life in your hands
You tightened your fingers and your grip
into unconsciousness I did slip

A shattered heart, a broken soul
A situation desperately out of control
I had no choice but to leave that day
and take the kids far away.

The memories still haunt my dreams
emotions running to the bitter extremes
Drugs to try and numb the pain
Cycle of addiction driving me insane
