Jewels in the ashes—so pretty,
I understand you lost my name.
I cannot make a robin sing
But it is sweet to view her wings.
Dark clouds took away midnight;
But is it only twilight
Where you find my dreams?
Where are you? Where are you tonight?
Is time the same for you,
Or is it only dust and stars?
Do roses bloom, do sparrows die
Or is there no world below the sky?
I felt the warm sunlight, but you are cold,
Waiting at my window for the snow.
Beauty in your depths, and on your surface;
Skeletons, unforgotten, weeping in our hearts.
Steal my heart of wounded light.
Tell me where you are tonight.
There is sand where once were souls;
Sing to me and we can fly.
