I Used to Play Ball
I was once a child, believe it or not.
I stepped on many a diamond,
Both sand and grass
Stuck in and on my cleats.
I played the field like an instrument.
I never did go far so I gave it up.
I might play again someday.
Loving you is like
Ice cubes placed into
The back of your shirt
(As a prank, I swear)
On those hot summer days
Or cold water
Drenching my cap
After the game-winning
Home run.
Just wait ‘till I bat again.
I stepped on many a diamond,
Both sand and grass
Stuck in and on my cleats.
I played the field like an instrument.
I never did go far so I gave it up.
I might play again someday.
Loving you is like
Ice cubes placed into
The back of your shirt
(As a prank, I swear)
On those hot summer days
Or cold water
Drenching my cap
After the game-winning
Home run.
Just wait ‘till I bat again.
