A Falling Leaf
The roar of their laughter
echos in the empty hallway
as she makes her quiet getaway.
Socializing wasn't a priority.
She retreats to a familiar room,
sitting down on the charcoal bench,
in front of the piano,
a solitude,
her open hiding place.
The hands, polished and sparing,
glide over the keys
as the silence is broken
by the vibration of the strings,
but the desire to play
leaves while the sorrow seeps in,
causing her glowing light to dim.
Her life feels like a delicate leaf,
falling at the mercy of the wind.
Its colors muted, a faded mosaic,
fluttering uncontrollably, spinning towards
the ground like a golden snowflake.
There it will lay, abandoned,
forgotten over time
as the fragments scatter
leaving no evidence of its existence.

Charlotte, THAT is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The sorrow of the beauty dying, the fantastic imagery. You're a special poet, young lady. Love 'the taste of defeat on her lips' and 'golden snow', beautiful, in a cold world.
Great, great job. It broke my heart.
Matthew.

You have wonderful ability to create harmonics in your writing. Your first two stanzas beautifully and delicately set the stage upon the mind's eye, set the needle to the heart and set it to spin and play the music you translate through your artistry. Always a privilege and joy to peer through this window into your soul.

That need to let a creative spark flow through you, only to whither at the moment of liftoff. I know this feeling, and it aches. You capture it so strongly in this piece...
