Starless Screams
Nights can be starless and extremely dark
When we sleep in a house out on its own;
The creaking timbers emphasise remarks
That I have made too teasingly; you've thrown
Reprisals at me, now bound to the bed;
Beneath the rafters, linnets chirp in eaves;
But your cruel thoughts are bound to chaffe me red;
From flushing skin to blushing grin, you weave
Your wicked magic, as you build regret
To an art form: malicious in revenge
For words best left unsaid; you won't forget,
Ensuring that each well-marked slight will cleanse
My thighs with starless screams: each harsh caress
Reminds me that I'm so caught in your mesh.
